General Details About The Project

E-Publication Project of Oxford, Harvard & Cambridge Universities. UK

The project we are currently into is data conversion. The procedure is quite simple. You will be provided with scanned images of books and all you have to do is type the entire text into a word document, format it, save it and sent the data back to the company. The work you do should be accurate and has to be submitted on or before the submission date. Late entries are not acceptable and encouraged and if an entry happens to be late, the work is bound to be rejected and no refunds shall be made thereafter.

The project requires no specific software to work on. All you need is Microsoft Word 2000 and a software to view the image files (ACDSee is supplied with the trial cd). The image files will be suppiled in *.jpg format. You have to read the image file and type it into the word document. Every single page in the image file should have corresponding word documents, irrespective of the size or length of the documents. For your convenience, you can split the wiindow into two after opening the two windows by right clicking on the taskbar and selecting tile windows horizontally. The way to do it is shown in the figure given below.

Tile Horizontally option in windows operating system

Once you have tiled the windows, you can look at the image and type into the word document at the same time. This is easy as both windows are scrollable. The tiled windows will look like the image shown below.

Tiled windows in split screen.

After typing the whole image into the document, format it according to the instructions and save the files using the nomenclature as described in there. Once you have completed all the images, recheck the documents for errors, either formatting or spell check errors. After you are convinced about the accuracy of the file, make a folder as it is given in the cd and put all the word documents into that folder. The heirarchy should be followed without failure. Now zip the files using winzip and give the filename as your registration number. If you submit your files without your registration number as the zipfile name, your work will have a status of "Work Not Received" and further work wont be allotted to you and the contract will be terminated.
